Academics

Electives

The new curriculum for the Broad MBA Program, implemented in Fall 2003, allows first-year students to take electives, to help focus earlier on areas of interest, and to prepare better for their summer internships.

If you do not opt to select a secondary concentration, you must take at least nine credits of elective courses outside of the core and primary concentration requirements. Some electives may come from graduate-level courses offered by other colleges within the University, provided that the courses related to your future business career and are approved by your MBA advisor.

Michigan State's block tuition policy gives Broad MBAs the opportunity to take coursework above and beyond the 57 credits required of the MBA degree, including electives of personal interest from other academic colleges, under a “one price” structure.

“People often comment that MBA students generally learn much from books, but not real applications. On the contrary, the people I work with always comment on how a Broad MBA works hard and smart. I believe the Broad MBA Program prepares one for his or her career, not just a job after graduation.”
